2- and 3-Dimensional Flow Modelling
In many cases multi-dimensional models are required to properly assess natural channel designs, bank stabilization measures, in-stream flow requirements, habitat elements, and sediment transport. Geomorphic Solutions has experience with a range of models to assist in assessment of flow and sediment regimes on riverine and coastal systems. Our modeling tools include one-dimensional models such as WinXSPRO (USDA Forest Service) and CONservation Channel Evolution and Pollutant Transport System (CONCEPTS) (USDA National Sedimentation Laboratory), and two/three-dimensional models such as the Multi-Dimensional Surface-Water Modeling System (MD_SWMS) (USGS Geomorphology and Sediment Transport Laboratory) and RIC-Nays (Foundation of Hokkaido River Disaster Prevention Research Center). Our in-depth knowledge of modelling allows us to critically evaluate the appropriateness of each model by understanding its assumptions and limitations. Also, our experience and extensive database of watercourses within southern Ontario has afforded us the opportunity to develop regional curves and regional sediment transport models to augment our analyses. For model calibration and verification, we have a range of tools and field techniques.
