Bioengineered Solutions

Bioengineering often provides a suitable alternative to engineered solutions (e.g., concrete or armour stone) as stabilization measures along streams, valley slopes or road embankments. They serve to prevent erosion, and protect private property or public infrastructure. Particularly along streams and shorelines, some level of erosion protection, in combination with aquatic or terrestrial enhancements, is often desired or even necessary. Bioengineered treatments frequently provide more than adequate erosion protection while offering natural benefits afforded by vegetation. We advocate the use of this relatively natural solution, and customize bioengineered treatments to provide the level of erosion protection required for each unique situation. Invariably, our bioengineered treatment designs avoid the use of synthetic products and use only natural resources such as riverstone, trees and tree products, topsoil, native seed mixes and plant materials, and 100% biodegradable products including coir and jute erosion control blankets.
