Bathymetric survey system. Geomorphic Solutions now possesses a bathymetric survey unit with WAAS capable GPS. The depth accuracy is sub-decimetre and horizontal position is within 3 m. We now have the capability to complete bed surveys of large rivers, lakes and ponds. The system can be mounted on almost any watercraft, and has recently been installed on an inflatable river pontoon boat with a small electric motor for surveys in shallow waterbodies. The collected data are easily imported into GIS and subsequently analyzed in CAD or GIS software.

Real-Time Kinetic (RTK) GPS and Total Station Survey Equipment. The Leica 1205 RTK GPS System was acquired in May 2009. To date, the unit has been utilized for surveys of rivers, coasts, watercourse crossing structures and neighbourhood assets. The unit provides 1 cm accuracy, horizontally and vertically in open field situations. Under canopy cover, the best accuracy achieved has been approximately 50 cm. To assist in this situation and in other more difficult field conditions, a compatible Leica 1203 Total Station, which provides 3 second accuracy, was acquired in June 2010. These two units used together in the field now provide a complete solution for field surveys that require high precision and accuracy.
Handheld Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). The FlowTracker handheld-ADV was purchased in March 2010. To date, this unit has been utilitized for discharge measurements on a variety of small streams and large rivers, as well as for characterizing 3-D flow fields. The ADV measures 3-D flow currents to an accuracy of 0.001 m/s utilizing standard methods to perform automatic discharge computations in the field. This equipment compliments our electro-magnetic flow meters, pressure transducers and optical sensors.
